According to reports, in Russia, 25,000 cancer patients are removed annually from the larynx, which entails an inevitable loss of voice. The essence of the joint work of programmers and physicians is to create affordable software, through which patients can partially restore their voice.
The program assumes several stages of recovery. At the beginning, the loudness and duration of speech are evaluated, after which the pitch frequency is measured online. As a rule, after the operation, the voice frequency does not exceed 20 hertz. After the course of rehabilitation, it can be increased by 6-7 or more times.
It was very important for scientists to minimize the error in determining the pitch frequency. They managed to reduce the error to 1-3%. The program determines the frequency of the required sound for 15 ms, and the phrase – for 50 ms. The information received by the computer is immediately evaluated in the form of a corresponding inscription on the screen.
With detailed information, patients recover their voice much faster. Thanks to the program, the recovery course lasts just over three weeks instead of 2-4 months according to the old methods.
