If you ever “drop in” for a minute on your Facebook page, suddenly you realize that you’ve been there for an hour, know that everything is fine with your head. In recent studies conducted by psychologists at the University of Kent, it was found that Internet users lose track of time, and this is most clearly manifested in the example of social networks.
Scientists have found evidence of the impact of the most popular social networks on the perception of time due to the constant attention and action of the appropriate excitation mechanisms. Compared to visitors to other sites, users of Facebook and VKontakte literally lose track of time.
As an experiment, a survey was conducted with the participation of 44 people, who were shown 20 different photographs. 5 of them were related to Facebook, 5 – to other sites and 10 had a neutral controlling direction.
The main conclusion of the study was that people who saw before themselves images associated with FB, underestimated the time compared to the participants who are watching other images.
The results obtained will help in the further study of Internet addiction and people’s addiction to social networks.
